Events ~ Ways To Help Out

Andrew has been helping families of children who are sick in the hospital & or receiving treatments for an illness since he started Group Hug Apparel in 2007. Many times families can be overwhelmed when their child is diagnosed with an illness; leaving them to make decisions that no family should be required to make.

Our family understands completely being in this kind of a situation. Andrew was born in 1991 with Down syndrome and he was flown to London Children’s Hospital for emergency life saving surgery. Since then, Andrew has been hospitalize over a dozen times for bowel, heart and other health related issues that accompany his Down syndrome.

While spending time at the hospital, we’ve seen other families thrown into similar situations like ours. Arriving at the hospital for tests or follow up appointments and then having to admit their child unexpectedly. At times this would leave families completely upside down and without things like, over night bags, toiletries, activities to keep the children occupied, extra diapers & supplies, food, money for parking or even just getting a coffee. The list seems to grow during stays and then sometimes it would lead to parents needing to make arrangements to stay for longer periods of time. They may have other children at home to attend to and then possibly taking leaves from work so that comfort is provided while treatments or recovery is needed for the child.

Andrew continue’s to help families by offering some comfort with these expenses. Sometimes it’s as simple as providing one of his Group Hug Apparel “Be Strong Rock On” designs to the child who is sick in the hospital or receiving treatments. Or by helping with fundraisers for the families in the way of selling his shirts with proceeds going to help cover expenses during this time. It can sometimes be a gift card for coffee or something to eat. He loves to help if he can.
